Mykonos Villa Holidays
Mykonos has two distinct personalities and the one you get depends almost entirely on when you go and where you stay. In peak season — late June through August — it's one of the most glamorous and expensive party destinations in the Mediterranean, with beach clubs like Scorpios and Nammos drawing a crowd that arrives by superyacht as often as by plane. If that's what you're after, it delivers completely.
Where to Stay Mykonos Town (Chora) is the heart of the island — winding lanes, boutique shops, some of the best restaurants in Greece. Ano Mera in the inland centre is quieter and more traditional. The south coast beaches — Paradise, Super Paradise, Psarou — are where the beach clubs are. Villas near Agios Ioannis or the northern coast offer seclusion without sacrificing the views.
Beaches The south coast beaches are famous and busy in summer — Psarou attracts a well-heeled crowd, Paradise and Super Paradise are lively with music from mid-morning. For something quieter, Agios Sostis in the north has no sunbeds, no bars, just clear water and a single taverna serving grilled fish.
Things to Do Wander Mykonos Town in the early morning before the day trippers arrive from cruise ships — it's genuinely magical. Watch the sunset from Little Venice. Take a day trip to the uninhabited island of Delos, one of the most significant archaeological sites in the Aegean, just 20 minutes by boat. For nightlife, Mykonos delivers better than anywhere else in Greece.
Food & Drink Mykonos has some of the best restaurants in the Greek islands — Nobu has an outpost here, and there are excellent local tavernas serving fresh fish alongside the high-end options. Kopanisti, the island's sharp fermented cheese, is worth trying. Loukoumades — honey-soaked doughnuts — from a street stall in Chora are the best snack on the island.
When to Go June and September for the best balance of weather and atmosphere. July and August are spectacular if you want the full Mykonos experience but come with the crowds and prices to match. Outside of peak season the island is much quieter — some venues close but the charm remains.
